Kalashnikov Seeds: Russian Feminised Cannabis Seeds

"Express" tends to get read as "rushed, and weaker for it". It's the wrong way round. AK Kush Express still lands around 20% THC and Big Altai Sativa Express around 22%, and the speed isn't a shortcut, it's genetics that had to ripen before the frost arrived or not ripen at all. Short Siberian summers did the selecting long before any breeder got involved, and that's the thread running through this whole shelf of cannabis seeds.

Soviet Army Veterans Who Never Stopped Crossing AK-47

Kalashnikov Seeds are a group of breeders from Russia, described as Soviet army veterans and old-school growers, and they've been breeding cannabis for more than a decade. Read the catalogue and you can more or less follow the map: Vodka Lemon, Katyusha, Kubanskiy Ubiyza, Amur Giant Auto, Baikal Express, Northern Russian Auto, Moscow Blueberry, Power Russian, Babushka Black Auto. Every pack here is feminised, so you're not sexing plants and binning males halfway through a tent run.

The method barely changes from strain to strain. Take a hybrid growers already trust, cross it into tough eastern stock, then keep the plant that finishes soonest without going weak. Lavanda Cream shows what happens when they take their time over it: a Crimean Veteran cross at 80% indica, 100-130cm tall, done in 60-65 days, and 500-600 g/m² indoors. Break a cured bud open and it smells like lavender with whipped cream behind it, which is not a note you get anywhere else on this page.

The AK Bloodline, From Kalashnikov Original To White Widow 47

The AK side is the backbone. Kalashnikov Original, AK Kush, AK Kush Express, AK Skunk, AK Skunk Auto and White Widow 47 all sit in the same family, and the crosses spread out from there. Siberian Haze is AK-47 paired with a select Haze and Amnesia, 65% sativa, up to 22% THC, 90-120cm, with slim longish buds over 65-75 days. It runs best on a SCRoG net. Watch out for the branches though, she carries a heavy load and wants support, and she asks for more attention than the rest of this brand, so she's a poor first grow.

Vodka Lemon comes from a different corner: Amnesia Molotov crossed with Afghan stock, 60% sativa, up to 23% THC, and a flowering time of only 60-65 days. Indoors she can push close to 1.5m with plenty of compact colas, so top her early if your tent is short. The flavour is a sharp, clean lemon, more citrus peel than sweet. White Russian OG goes the other way, 70% indica from OG Kush and White Russian, under 120cm, 55-65 days, earthy and woody with sour lemon and a bit of melon, and so caked in resin that it's an obvious pick if you make hash.

The Express Line, Finished Before The Autumn Damp

The Express packs are the reason this brand gets bought twice. Big Altai Sativa Express, AK Kush Express, Kalashnikov Express, Purple Russian Express, White Critical Express, Soyuz OG Express, Baikal Express and Kabul Express all trade a few weeks of flowering for an earlier chop, and in a British September that matters more than a THC point or two. Kabul Express is a dense 1989 indica, so expect solid, heavy flowers rather than airy ones.

AK Kush Express is the shortest of the bunch we have specs for: 80-100cm finished, 50-60 days of flowering, buds that go solid to the touch in the last fortnight, and a grow room that ends up smelling of tangy citrus sorbet. Resin production is dense enough that it shrugs off most pest and mould pressure, which is why it does well outdoors in northern and eastern Europe. Big Altai Sativa Express is the odd one out: 90% sativa, but it stays at 100-140cm and matures in 70-75 days, with pine and cold forest on the nose and a clear, energetic daytime effect at around 22% THC.

One honest note on the numbers. The outdoor figures on these strains, 1300g per plant on Big Altai Sativa Express or over a kilo on AK Kush Express, come from good conditions with a long, warm, dry finish. A wet UK August will not give you that. Indoor figures of 550-600 g/m² are the ones to plan around.

What We'd Actually Put In A British Grow Room

If you're growing indoors and height is your problem, AK Kush Express at 80-100cm or White Russian OG at under 120cm both fit a cupboard-sized tent. If you've got vertical room and want a sativa buzz, Big Altai Sativa Express is the one we'd pick over Siberian Haze, purely because it needs less babysitting for a similar effect. Outdoors in the UK, the autos make more sense than the photoperiods: Northern Russian Auto, Babushka Black Auto, Moscow Blueberry Auto, Amur Giant Auto, Purple Mazar Auto, Acid Blue Auto, AK Skunk Auto and Siberian Haze Auto all run on their own clock and don't care how short your daylight is getting.

Coming from a Dutch or Spanish breeder, the thing you'll notice is temperament. These plants tolerate a missed feed and a cold night better than most Haze-heavy stock, and White Russian OG in particular forgives a bit of grower error. If you want a straight recommendation: start with AK Kush Express, keep Vodka Lemon for the summer, and come back for Lavanda Cream when you want something nobody else at your table has smoked.
