What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a holistic Indian system of wellbeing more than 3,000 years old. The name means "knowledge of life", and it uses herbs, spices and daily routines to keep body and mind in balance. It's there to support wellbeing rather than replace medical care, and how much each herb is backed by research varies.

Ayurvedic herbs at a glance

A quick map of the ones people reach for most.

HerbTraditionally used forGood if you want
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)Stress, winding downA calmer baseline
Turmeric (Curcuma longa)Everyday inflammation, jointsGeneral support
Mucuna pruriensMood, motivationA lift, not calm
TriphalaDigestionA gut-friendly routine
BrahmiFocus, clarityMental sharpness

If you're not sure, ashwagandha is where we'd start. A heads-up on triphala: it's properly bitter, so most people take it as capsules rather than loose powder. Browse the full range in our herbs, or pair brahmi with our brain supplements.

Doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha

Ayurveda sorts people into three energy types. Vata (air) is quick and creative but runs cold and restless. Pitta (fire) is driven and sharp but overheats. Kapha (earth) is calm and steady but slow to start. Most people are a mix with one dominant dosha, and a dosha quiz points you to the herbs and routines that fit. Just want to unwind? Try Relax.

Ayurveda FAQ

Do ayurvedic supplements work? It varies by herb. Ashwagandha and turmeric have been studied for stress and inflammation; others rest more on traditional use. They work best alongside a steady routine.

Which dosha am I? Most people are a blend with one dominant type, so a dosha quiz gives a useful starting point.

Are they safe? For most people, yes, at sensible doses. Check the label, and if you're pregnant, breastfeeding or on medication, speak to a healthcare professional first.

Where do I start? Ashwagandha for stress, turmeric for everyday support, brahmi for focus. Pick one goal and build from there.
