Small Pellets, Centuries of Chinese Tea Tradition
Gunpowder Tea takes its name from the small, dense, pearl-like pellets that the dried leaves of Camellia sinensis (family Theaceae) are hand-rolled into. The rolling preserves the leaf's aroma inside each pellet until hot water releases it. This variety originates from Zhejiang Province, China, where it has been produced for centuries and valued in Chinese tea culture since the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). The leaves and leaf buds of the plant are used, dried and rolled into the characteristic shiny anthracite pellets you'll find in the 100g pack.
Brewing Gunpowder Tea
Add the pellets to a cup or teapot and pour over hot water. As the water hits them, the pellets slowly unfurl and open up, releasing a strong, earthy aroma that's noticeably more intense than most standard loose-leaf green teas. The flavour is nutty and mildly smoky, with a full-bodied, round character and a smooth finish. A spoonful of honey softens the smokiness if you prefer a gentler cup. The tea also works well as a base for mint blends, or stirred into a smoothie for an earthy depth. One thing to bear in mind: the aroma is assertive, so if you're used to lighter, more delicate green teas, this will feel like a step up in intensity.

Sehr leckerer Tee, der angenehme rauchige, nussige und blumige Aromen bei der Zubereitung entwickelt. Dabei keineswegs aufdringlich, sondern relativ mild.
