Copelandia Weza: The Heavyweight of the Panaeolus line

Weza is a Panaeolus cyanescens culture, better known by its genus name Copelandia, and it's a different animal from the Golden Teacher or McKennaii kits you might have grown before. Among the Copelandia cultures our breeder has worked with, Weza stands out for its build: thick stems and flatter caps than the rest, which is exactly why it picked up the nickname The Heavyweight. The spore print arrived in the breeder's collection in 2024 labelled 'Weza, South Africa', but no collector, site, date or field notes came with it, so that origin is part of the story rather than a confirmed fact. What is confirmed is that Weza went through the same Dutch selection programme as the breeder's other Copelandia lines. Panaeolus cyanescens sits in the very strong tier, well above the usual Psilocybe cubensis varieties, so the harvest is for experienced users only, not a first trip. Growing it is a different matter, and the kit itself is no harder to run than a cubensis one.

Because this is Panaeolus rather than cubensis, the kit uses a casing layer over the substrate rather than the straight misting approach you'd use on a cubensis bag. It's a different rhythm, not a harder one, and the full method is in the manual below rather than restated here. One tray can produce up to 4-5 flushes if you're patient with it, though that's not a guarantee. Once harvested, eat the mushrooms within a couple of days if kept in the fridge, or dry them to make them last longer.
