Great Mullein (Verbascum thapsus): a tall, woolly-leaved biennial
Great Mullein, botanically Verbascum thapsus, belongs to the Scrophulariaceae family and grows wild across Europe, Asia and North Africa, having also naturalised in other parts of the world. In its first year it forms a low rosette of large, oval, grey-green leaves covered in soft, felted hairs. In its second year it sends up a tall flowering spike lined with small yellow flowers, then dies back after setting seed. The leaves are the part used here, dried and shredded ready for the pot.
Mullein leaf as a loose-leaf tea
The dried, shredded mullein leaf in this pack is made for steeping as a loose-leaf infusion. Add a spoonful to hot water and let it sit for a few minutes before straining out the leaf. The taste is soft and mild, so it works well on its own or blended with other herbs. Beyond tea, the dried leaf can also be prepared as a tincture or used topically, giving you a bit more flexibility with how you use the 50 grams in the pack.
